Milan Fashion Week: Spring/Summer 2023 Runway Show

Canadian Fashion Designer Brings Sustainable Knitwear to Milan Fashion Week

On September 25th, 2022 Calgary designer, Marisa P. Clark, of Faun Studio presented for her first time at Milan Fashion Week. She proudly represented Canadian design in GFC’s showcase with her Spring/Summer 2023 collection. Faun has a very distinct personality; its collections exude an unabashed femininity and creative playfulness. At the same time, this 2016 graduate of the London College of Fashion is committed to producing her line sustainably and ethically in Vietnam, her late mother’s birthplace.

Since its 2018 debut, Faun has presented collections at New York and Paris fashion weeks and has been featured in Vanity Fair, Forbes, and Refinery 29. Last year, Clark was voted the winner amongst Canada’s leading designers in Vote Couture for the Cure, creating a one-of-a-kind dress, crafted entirely out of toilet paper.

Faun’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection explores different sustainable forms of knitwear. Inspired by Clark’s time in Oaxaca, Mexico, learning about dying fabrics with plants and traditional weaving techniques. These ethically-made, ready-to-wear pieces are styled with hand crocheted designs created from naturally dyed, up-cycled fabrics. The sage green and muted coral colours throughout the collection are carefully paired with retro, floral pastel prints. This colour palette, against the sophisticated cream knits, are reminiscent of summer sunsets amongst wildflowers.
